Using GIS in business is not a new concept, however, in this episode Opeyemi hosted Alazar Tekle, a GIS Analyst and Deputy Manger at AddisMap - an interactive City Guide of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to talk about how his team used Open Source geospatial data to help but businesses on the map. The AddisMap team leveraged the power of OpenStreetMap to create other powerful geospatial tools like YeneGuzo App (Public Transport Application based on OpenTripPlanner and Trufi), Route-to-Market (RTM) services, EDS (Every Dealer Survey) and Mobile Money Agents Mapping for Ethio-Telecom's TeleBirr service.
They are currently working on OpenPlaceGuide - a continent-wide iteration of AddisMap, which will serve as an open source business directory, based on the OpenStreetMap, and which the public can also contribute to it.
